There was a young woman named Bright
Whose speed was much faster than light.
    She set out one day
    In a relative way,
And returned on the previous night.

There was a young lady one fall
Who wore a newspaper dress to a ball.
    The dress caught fire
    And burned her entire
Front page, sporting section and all.

There once was a young man from Lyme
Who scored a goal for the very first time!
    The young man was glad
    But his teammates were sad
'Cause he hadn't changed sides at half time!

A gentle old lady I knew
    Was dozing one day in her pew;
    When the preacher yelled "Sin!"
    She said,"Count me in!
As soon as the service is through!"

There once was a lady named Lynn
    Who was so uncommonly thin,
    That when she assayed
    To drink lemonade,
She slipped through the straw and fell in!

There was a young maiden, a Sioux,
    As tempting as fresh honeydioux.
    She displayed her cute knees
    As she strolled past tepees,
And the braves, they all hollered "Wioux-Wioux!"

There was a young woman named Bright
Whose speed was much faster than light.
    She set out one day
    In a relative way,
And returned on the previous night.

By beauty I am not a star.
There are others more handsome by far.
My face I don't mind it.
    because I'm behind it.
It's the people in front that I jar.

There once was a boy from Montreal
    Who loved to play basketball
For a team he tried out
But if he made it, I doubt
For you see, he was three feet tall!

An old fellow dining at Crewe
Found a very large bug in his stew.
    Said the waiter, "Don't shout
    And wave it about,
Or the rest will be wanting one too.

There once was a girl from Great Britain
Who carelessly sat on her kitten
    Imagine her surprise
and the look in her eyes
when on the behind she was bitten.

There was a plump knight named Sir Keith
Who removed his sword from its sheath
    He fought for his honor
    But soon was a goner
And the dragon stood picking his teeth.

There was a young woman of Leeds
Who swallowed six packets of seeds.
    In a month, silly lass,
    She was covered with grass,
And she couldn't sit down for the weeds.

    Roses can sometimes be red
    And violets are generally blue
For it's not in the rhyming
    But all in the timing
That makes a dumb Limerick true

    Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Hello everyone. My brother's starting the Atkin's Diet he did it once before and has just heard its now approved by American Health Administration. I wish he'd find one that when he's done it sticks and he doesn't gain weight back I know it's hard I have dieted all my life up down up so I gave up. I'm 54 and 400 lbs there abuts and I just hope to drop or stay the same I sure don't want to put more on. I have enough problems getting around with my arthritis and herniated stomach also a platelet of scar tissue in my stomach from 24 years ago when I had gangrene after my second baby's c~section. I'm just thankful to see every new day and the sweet faces of my family..

I can only say it was the most ovals smell I have ever smelt, the doctor wash his hands and peek in at me and said "You know your cute but you sure do stink". The nurses had to wear mask not for health reasons but to help with the smell I would even ask for one they open windows and had fans brought to my room to try and air the room out they even had a plug in unite that held 3  10 inch long air freshener sticks running wide open I was place in a privet room and never saw the doctor who deliver the baby again till he deliver my granddaughter 3 years ago.

    Toronto honors doctor

By MARK J. MILLER, staff Writer

TORONTO — A retiring city physician was honored and praised for her service to the city and its citizens during Monday’s City Council meeting.

Dr. Jane Shaffer was wished well in her retirement by council members and Mayor John Geddis during the meeting.

Shaffer retired this week after more than 50 years of serving the community.

Second Ward Councilwoman Dorothy Blaner introduced a resolution of recognition for Shaffer’s service, and council voted 7-0 for its first reading Monday.

“For 50 years many in the community have willingly placed their health and well-being in the capable hands of Dr. Jane Shaffer, who prefers to do her work out of the spotlight,” Blaner said.

Blaner then read a resume of Shaffer’s accomplishments, including establishing her practice in Toronto in 1950 and founding the well-baby clinic at the Toronto Health Department which runs to this day. Shaffer also served on the city schools board of education for 20 years and was named an All-Ohio Board of Education award recipient in November 1974, Blaner said.

She also served as member of the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School Board and the Jefferson County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, which she served on for more than 13 years.

“The county board established six residential homes for retarded citizens of Jefferson County, which was named Shaffer Plaza in her honor,” said Blaner.

Shaffer also has been named citizen of the year by the Toronto Area Chamber of Commerce and Quinn AME Church, said Blaner.

“She was featured in a 1998 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article about female physicians making a difference in the lives of their patients,” Blaner said. “I thought it was in the best interest to present her with a resolution (of appreciation). I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of what she has done for this community.”

Geddis also hailed Shaffer, adding “there will never be another like her. She is a unique individual.”

    Frances Jane Shaffer, M.D.

For 50 years many in the Toronto, Ohio, community have willingly placed their health and wellbeing in the capable hands of physician Jane Shaffer, who prefers to do her work with out fanfare or in the glare of the spotlight.
Born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Shaffer's family moved to Toronto, where she attended school, graduating from Toronto High School.
Following graduation, she attended the University of California at Berkeley, where she received a bachelor of arts degree. She earned her medical degree at the University of California at San Francisco. She was one of only 10 women in her medical school class of 1943.
Dr. Shaffer served her internship at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. She served her residency at the University of California Hospital in San Francisco, Western Reserve University Lakeside Hospital in Cleveland and Permanente Foundation Hospital in Oakland, Calif.
After completing her residency, Dr. Shaffer returned to Toronto and established her practice in 1950. In the 50 years since opening her practice, Dr. Shaffer has cared for many Toronto area residents, seeing in some cases three and four generations of patients. Likewise, until she gave up delivering babies in 1988, she helped bring hundreds of infants into the world. Those infants were "her" babies. Her love for infants and children prompted her to open, in addition to her practice, a well-child clinic in 1956, which she continues to operate.
In addition to the medical care she has provided to community, Dr. Shaffer also has been a member of several boards that have benefited Jefferson County residents. She served on the Toronto Board of Education for 20 years, and in November 1974, she was one of only five school board members statewide to be named to an "All Ohio Board of Education." She was a member of the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School Board from planning to completion and operation of the facility. Appointed by the Jefferson County Probate Court to the 169 Board of Mental Retardation, Dr. Shaffer served more than 13 years, during which time the School of Bright Promise was developed and built. Also the board established six residential homes for retarded citizens of Jefferson County, which were named Shaffer Plaza in her honor.
The reluctant recipient of public recognition for her efforts, Shaffer has received "Citizen of the Year" honors by the Toronto Chamber of Commerce and Quinn A.M.E. Church. She also was honored for 50 years of practice by the Jefferson County Medical Society and named Trinity Health System's "Woman of the Year." She was featured in a 1998 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article about female physicians making a difference in the lives of their patients.
When she's not seeing patients, Dr. Shaffer may be found tending to her flower garden or singing in the choir at the First United Presbyterian Church of Toronto, where she is a longtime member.
Thriving on the practice of medicine, Shaffer vows that as long as she's having fun, she'll continue doing what she loves - caring for others.

FEBRUARY 16,2007: An Associated Press report out of Guadalajara, Mexico stated that a Mexican federal court has denied Duane "Dog" Chapman's injunction request and has ruled that the star of A&E's "Dog the Bounty Hunter" should be extradited and stand trial for deprivation of liberty - a charge stemming from Dog and his posse's 2003 capture of convicted serial rapist, Andrew Luster in Puerto Vallarta.
Mexican authorities had asked for Chapman's extradition from Hawaii and U.S. Marshals took Dog, son Leland Chapman and associate Tim Chapman into custody back on September 14th for their role in bringing Luster to justice. Dog, Leland and Tim were released on bail and have been awaiting a ruling on their request to stop the extradition proceedings, which would otherwise require them to face trial in Mexico.
"Our attorneys have not even been formally informed of the court's decision, as of yet," Dog and wife Beth Chapman said. "We are obviously deeply disappointed and fearful of what will happen, and are currently absorbing the news and discussing our options at this time."
Andrew Luster, the notorious heir to the Max Factor cosmetics fortune, was convicted of drugging and raping three women over a four year span. During his trial in 2003, Luster fled the country, leading to an international manhunt. In June 2003, Dog and his team tracked the fugitive Luster in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where he was living under an alias, and seized him. Luster was subsequently found guilty in the US and is currently serving a 124 year prison sentence. At that time,in June 2003, Dog, Tim and Leland were arrested by the Mexican authorities for unlawful deprivation of liberty and released on bail.
If you feel as I feel you need to write your congressman and have the Chapman's freed. Thank you.

    The Master Plan

Did God not make the universe
    The drifting clouds so high
A blazing sun, the moon and stars
    The blue and endless sky.

Did God not make the hollyhock
    The lovely daffodil
A purple violet and lilac tree
    The evening whip-poor-will.

Did God not make the yellow finch
    The robin flying low
A meadowlark, the jay and wren
The black bird and the crow.

Did God not make the oceans deep
    The clear and sparkling stream
A babbling brook, the lakes and ponds
    The geysers filled with steam.

Did God not make the shifting sand
    The rivers gentle flow
A field of grain, the rolling plain
    The valley down below.

Did God not make the grace of spring
    The rainbows vibrant hue
A winter snow, the autumn leaves
    The morning filled with dew.

Did God not make the mountains high
    The stately trees so tall
A blade of grass, the thunderstorm
The dear Lord made them all.

  • Beyond The Sunset

Beyond the sunset, O blissful morning.
When with our Saviour heaven's begun.
Earth's toiling ended, O glorious dawning
Beyond the sunset when day is done.

Beyond the sunset, no clouds will gather.
No storms will threaten, no fears annoy.
O day of gladness, O day unending.
    Beyond the sunset eternal joy.

Beyond the sunset, a hand will guide me,
To God the Father whom I adore.
His glorious presence, His words of welcome,
Will be my portion on that fair shore.

Beyond the sunset, O glad reunion,
With our dear loved ones who've gone before,
In that fair homeland we'll know no parting.
    Beyond the sunset forever more.
